The MOME Senate selects the university’s next rector
Formerly Head of the Architecture Institute, Professor Csaba Kovács has built a career spanning several decades across both architecture and higher education. His work has been defined by excellence in architectural design, active engagement in professional public life, and a longstanding commitment to the university community.
Earlier this year, the MOME Foundation launched an open call for for the position of rector. The application period closed on 31 March, and three valid applications were submitted by the deadline. On 27 April, candidates Jurgen Bey, Csaba Kovács, and Balázs Vargha presented their programmes to the Senate, before taking part in an open rectorial debate on 29 May to share their visions with the university community. In the months leading up to the vote, they also met staff at a series of open forums and published their programmes online.
The new rector is expected to begin a four-year term on 1 August 2026. The role includes overseeing the university's educational, research, innovation, creative and academic activities; supporting the professional growth and wellbeing of students, faculty, and researchers in close cooperation with the CEO; and contributing to the development and maintenance of MOME's national and international professional partnerships in line with the university's strategic objectives.
