At the Rector's request, Eszter Babarczy and András Mohácsi to lead discussions with students

Date: 2025.02.04
Rector of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Pál Koós has proposed measures to find mutually reassuring solutions and has invited two respected members of the MOME community – associate professor and philosopher Eszter Babarczy and associate professor and sculptor András Mohácsi – to host and mediate the discussions with students.

As previously reported, on 3 February, Rector Pál Koós presented new proposals aimed at resolving some outstanding issues regarding MOME’s ongoing revitalisation process.

He made three specific proposals:

  • The first one suggests that, contrary to previous regulations and considering the criticisms of current practice, decisions regarding the leadership of the newly established knowledge centres will no longer be made by the Rector, but by the community of each knowledge centre.
  • The second one introduces a new online platform where members of the MOME community can share their suggestions for improving and facilitating the transformation process. Proposals that receive the community’s approval will be implemented from the spring of 2025 onwards.
  • The third proposal offers MOME students a variety of opportunities to actively engage in the transformation process, ranging from improving student services and internal operations to developing new experimental courses.

Following these proposals, a group of students put forward their demands to the university’s leadership.

In response, the Rector is initiating talks with the student group to restore internal peace and find mutually acceptable solutions.

To ensure the discussions take place in a constructive and trusting environment, he has enlisted two distinguished members of the MOME community, associate professor, philosopher, and leader of the MOME Union Eszter Babarczy and associate professor and sculptor András Mohácsi to host and mediate the dialogue, bringing their credibility and objectivity to the table.

The proposed date for these discussions is Thursday, 6 February 2025.

The university leadership is united in its view that only a willingness to engage in dialogue will show whether the parties involved are truly driven by a commitment to the university's interests and future.
