Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design
The surroundings of the One and Two buildings
Since September 2025, the steep slope in front of the One and Two buildings has become home to the university’s community garden. Following its redevelopment, the previously low-biodiversity grassy area has been transformed into a more ecologically diverse garden designed with permaculture principles in mind.
In the experimental plots, students and staff will be able to plant species with natural dye properties, essential oils, fibre structures, or other qualities that can be used in creative activities. At the back of the Two building, a composter designed by students has been set up for the university’s green waste management.
Sustainability is important not only ecologically but also culturally – for preserving the identity and heritage of the university. The park features numerous memorials and sculptures placed there over the decades, including the cubes commemorating the university’s notable educators in the memorial garden next to the Two building.
